During the 1920’s and 30’s Aimee Semple McPherson, the founder of the Foursquare Denomination in the States built the Angelus Temple in Los Angeles. She famously coined the phrase the 'Illustrated Sermon'. The idea was to present the Gospel big scale and very creatively. She was criticised heavily by church leaders but responded with the statement “If you have a better idea then tell me, but don’t ask me to preach to empty seats!"
This story has lived with me for the last 20 years and it feels more current now than ever. I’ve been working with Neil Maddock to create a performance that we are presenting in the Plaza Theatre in Romsey on the 21st and 22nd October. It will be called ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’ and will declare the Gospel through the lives of a genius inventor, a notorious criminal and perhaps the greatest entertainer of them all! The website www.tomdickharry.co.uk will be up soon!
Following another hectic yet really fruitful summer of events across the UK and in France and Spain, we look to a new season. In a couple of weeks time all the team come together in old clothes to fix the vehicles and event equipment. We call it the 'work week' and a great time is had by all! It’s also a time when we need to raise a budget to carry out essential repairs and maintenance. We are also looking to the Christmas tour where a number of us take the Mobilestage to several busy town centres to run open air carol services in partnership with local churches we are link to. It’s a fabulous opportunity to reach people with the message and hope of the Gospel of Jesus at a time when they're already open to some extent. Let us know if you would like us to come to your town or village.
